Report

A long drive to Worksop gave plenty of time for the nerves to kick in and settle in the lead up to the U11 Cup Final between Greenhill and Handsworth Boys. A bright and breezy morning, a flat pitch and a ball with more bounce than Jordan, the scene was set for the two teams to do battle.
Greenhill settled quickest and were unlucky not to test the keeper with a shot when Oliver H drove down the right wing with menace. However it was Handsworth who drew first blood from a 10' corner and blundered the goal. From hereon in Handsworth took control and on the 20' a mazy run from Handsworth midfield went  unchallenged and when the shot was blocked the ball was volleyed back in for a fine goal. Handsworth comfortably leading at half time 2-0.
Tom was introduced at half time and despite not being fully fit he immediately raised the tempo. Greenhill were now edging the possession but could not find that vital breakthrough. Handsworth were unsettled and when an inch perfect cross was fired in from the right wing with the goal at their mercy, Greenhill perhaps sensed it wasn't their day when the shot went over the bar. It was a wake up call for the opposition who switched back on to close out the game with a killer third goal. Final score, Greenhill 0 Handsworth Boys 3.
Man of the match (selected by the referee) - Oliver Harrison
Congratulations to Handsworth Boys on winning the cup!
Commiserations Greenhill...it's disappointing to end the season like this but we'll bounce back for next season. Enjoy the summer!
