Darfield
Under 9's

A determined Darfield took to the field at the start of the second match and it required a well time interception from Ewan to break up a promising attack. Darfield then broke through and fired a fierce shot just wide of Jacko’s far post. In the first few minutes Greenhill struggled to push into the oppositions half as Zac was unable to find an up field outlet. Darfield then were handed a stroke of luck just as Greenhill looked to have weathered the storm, a Darfield shot took a cruel deflection off of Ethan’s boot leaving Jacko wrong footed in goal. Greenhill now stoutly defended its goal with both Zen and Ewan making telling interceptions. However this was not enough to prevent Darfield finding the net again with a super shot from outside the area which left the Keeper with no chance. Greenhill now responded with Elliot passing the ball to Zac who zigzag his way up the right hand side and sent in a penetrating crossed into the penalty box, Zen collected the ball and shot towards goal, the ball whistled past the goal grazing the post as it went by. This was the last meaningful action of the half.

The second half started with a change in goal as Ethan went and Jacko moved up front. Darfield pressed hard from the outset and this required Elliot to make a timely interception. Darfield had a shot on goal which was smoothed calmly by Ethan. In a strong swelling wind the resulting goal kick fell kindly to the Darfield attacker who was able find the back of the net. Greenhill now started to fight back led by Zac (man of the Match) who worked tirelessly in midfield and gained a free kick on the edge of the box. The resulting shot was a peach leaving the keeper flatfooted as the ball sailed into the net. Greenhill now had their tails up, Jacko had a good shot on goal and followed this up with a strong run down the left hand side, Zen was also trying to break down a stubborn defence. Just when a Greenhill goal looked likely Darfield were able to break away leading to an opportunist strike. Isaac who had been ill replaced Ethan in goal and this had a immediate effect as Zac fed to ball into the box for Ethan to score a goal. The final whistle went soon after and the Darfield supporters cheered their team loudly as they knew they had been in a competitive match.
