Kick Off : 10:30 Meeting Time :

Greenhill JFC U7’s V Darfield
Finally we were blessed with good football conditions, the pitch both looked and felt good.
Gunners took the first game and it wasn’t anywhere near like the last time the two teams met. Greenhill applied the pressure early starting with a great cross from Tom Gregg that went begging. The Darfield keeper kept us out with save after save but we still applied the pressure which soon paid off. After the ball ping-ponged around their area, Freddie Grimmer finally managed to squeeze it passed the keeper to open the scoring. Another scramble followed, this time William Gresham put it home from close range. He continued his strong performance by creating chance after chance with great skills on the wing resulting in a cross for Freddie to convert for his second. Josh Sell delivered a fantastic low corner for William Gresham to score again. Louis Naylor demonstrated some safe defending but in one instance he carried the ball the full length, cut inside the last defender and smashed it home to open his account. William continued on the wing and put in a low ball which found Morgan Bailey in a dangerous position but he just skimmed the post and was very unlucky not to score. Josh Sell and William took a short corner which drew out the defenders creating space for the attacking duo of Tom Gregg and Morgan Bailey, again just missing out. Tom settled the game finishing off a spilled ball from another great save from their keeper. Isaac Mullins tended the Greenhill goal and didn’t get tested very often, when he was it was clean and safe. He kicked well and positioned himself well, needless t say he kept a clean sheet which gave him a man of the match performance.
In the second game the coaches tried a change of tactics putting Taylor Simpson in goal with Ben Woodard venturing for a taste of the outfield. The Gladiators were obviously up for it as Greenhill poured on the pressure, William Day cut inside and came in hard along the touch line smashing it home with a left foot shot from a tight angle to open up the scoring. There was some delightful football played with clean crisp passing. One move from an Oliver Groombridge corner saw the ball move between William Day, Elliot McKie and Owan Derrett before Niall Edge came in on the action to finish it off with a strong shot. Elliot Mackie and William Day tested the Darfield keeper further with shot after shot. Finally Elliot bagged one with a great strike. Owan rattled the wood work on two occasions and was very unlucky not to notch. William Day took the ball in from the wing setting up Oliver Groombridge on goal who took it round the keeper with a cool finish. Oliver continued with an excellent performance in all parts of the field which gave him the man of the match. In defence Niall showed his dominance and headed two Darfield shots off the line. Taylor Simpson put in a solid performance in goal and was unlucky not to keep a clean sheet from a great free kick and although he got his hands to it was only just beaten.
A good team performance all round against a much improved side.

Would moving kids' football to a summer game help improve the development of young footballers?
Yes - better pitches mean a better chance to develop technique/skills
No - wouldn't make any real difference to development
Maybe - but I'd be worried about more injuries on firm pitches
