We went into today's top of the table clash with Maltby with our unbeaten record still in tact. An early free kick put Maltby ahead after just 2 minutes and left us with a tough half to come playing into a strong biting wind. Although we had plenty of endevour we never really played to our potential and didn't penetrate into the last third of the pitch, apart from on a couple of occasions when Billy Wharam and Stefano Lantrua Kissak got round the back of their defence but failed to test their keeper. Half Time 1/0
Second half was more of the same with Greenhill doing most of the pressing but without any real quality. Our defence rarely looked troubled and dealt with most of the long balls that came their way with ease. As the last 15 minutes approached we finally started to penetrate their back four and Maltby's keeper pulled off a great save from a Billy Wharam header after a fine move down the left hand side. Stefano should also have done better when through on goal but hesitated and was dispossesed on the edge of the box. After going 3 at the back to try and get the equaliser we were caught on the break and Maltby took a 2 goal lead.
A free kick from William Warhurst pulled one back and made for a grandstand finish and a last gasp save from Maltby's keeper from James Blackburn, after a fine passing move ensured the points went to Maltby and brought to an end our unbeaten record.
Without taking anything away from Maltby, it was by far our worse performance of the season and we need to get back to winning ways next week v Sheffield Rangers to keep our title challenge on track. Our back four, especially Brad Wilson didn't really put a foot wrong today, but as a team we didn't have the desire of our opponents, or the quality, to win the game.
Man of the match - Brad Wilson
