MIDLANDS CHAMPIONS INVITATIONAL CUP 2009 (23/08/09)
To go through the long list of trophies we've won and pick a favourite would be hard to say the least but when we look back this day will certainly take some beating.
A wonderful venue in Leicester with superb pitches and blazing sun certainly helped, add in the quality of the opposition and this was the tournament to win during summer 2009.
The fact its an invitational cup only open to those finishing top 3 of A divisions certainly gives it some spice. On the basis of the programme the U10's section certainly had form with league winners, cup winners and tournament winners everywhere you looked. So going with no expectation was probably a wise move.
Teams from Leicester, Coventry, Northants and surrounding areas were involved along with South Yorkshire representatives Greenhill JFC. A strong, balanced squad had been selected - Ben Gresham, Brad Richards, Josh Hawes, Charley Blunden, Liam Nutt, Hugo Warhurst, Josh Jex, Aaron Mushet and Brad Smith.
First up were our hosts, Aylestone Park and the boys came back from 1-0 down to win 2-1 with goals from Aaron and a halfway line, intended top corner, winner from Hugo - a quality goal but a not altogether convincing performance from the boys.
Next up were Aylestone Youth and again we struggled a little and were fotunate that the keeper helped a Hugo cross in to the net to give a 1-0 win.
The match v Netherhall was perhaps the turning point - a feisty encounter saw a Brad S poachers goal give another 1-0 win but the boys suddenly seemed to wake up and perhaps some of the challenges they'd received and given out in this game finally convinced them this wasn't going to be an easy tournament win and a step up in commitment was needed.
The perfromance in the next game v Coundon Park was our best so far but as you might guess that meant we lost it 1-0! A sloppy goal given away and the post, bar and keeper all contrived to keep us at bay.
Northampton Soccer Stars were defending champions but again the boys performed and won 2-0 with Charley and an excellent team worked Liam goal securing the points and a place in the final as group winners.
The last game v Bugbrook St Michael was a Greenhill dominated 0-0 draw which ultimately meant nothing but Bugbrook being knocked out.
So to the final v Coundon Park and again it was dominated by Greenhill. Dominance was rewarded with the goal of the day, Brad R to Charley to Josh H to Hugo down the right. A cut inside and a crashing 25 yarder into the far top corner off the underside of the bar - Andy Gray would be choking on his words if he'd seen that on a Sunday afternoon. As always, quality opposition will always get a chance and Ben produced another great save in the second half to keep his clean sheet.
We' ve never been ones to hype it up (much) but to be crowned champions of champions was a great feeling as the cup was presented in Lineker's Lounge and the perfect way to round off our summer tournament schedule.
Well done to everyone involved, who as always, were a credit to themselves and the club. The results show this was no walkover give me tournament win and that makes it all the more satisfying.
We look forward to returning to defend our title next summer!
BRAMPTON ROVERS TOURNAMENT 2009 (13/07/09)
Wise man once told us that we were only as good as our opponents last win against us, umm, not sure where we stand now then..
After a couple of disappointments in recent tournaments, it had come to our attention that there was a feeling that the galacticos (as some other teams apparently call us - I like that, cheers!) may have lost their sparkle. But after another tournament win - our 3rd out of 6 this pre season plus 2 runners up spots the Greenhill trophy cabinet retains its shine.
Its fair to say though that this was needed, despite everyone knowing that tournaments can be a little of a lottery due to the short games, they can also build or destroy confidence and ours was a little low after our 2 recent setbacks.
Yet again our first tournament game would be against Wickersley (B) and there was only one team playing football in this one yet it counted for nothing as a punt upfield in addition to a defensive mistake gave Wickersley a 1-0 win.
Now after recent events, our boys could have folded and decided this wasn't for them. But lets not forget most of these boys have A divison and Cup winners medals sitting at home so the kick on after this defeat was something some might expect but the manner of it was good to watch to say the least - 4-0 v Brampton, 3-0 v Brimwood and 3-0 v AFC Dronfield meant that our first game defeat was irrelevant as we topped the group due to Wickersley drawing 2 of their other games.
But as above it was the manner of the victories that warmed the soul - passing football, 100% commitment, teamwork, desire and all round quality swept allcomers aside.
A semi v Matlock was a mis match as we totally dominated from start to finish with another 4-0er and in truth it could have been many many more.
So another Greenhill v Wickersley (A) final. All the football in the final was again being played by the green shirts and when Wickersley equalised to make it 1-1 in the second half there was a feeling of injustice on our touchline. So how did the boys react? 1) Did they fold again or 2) show us what true winners are about - cashier number 2) please - a punt upfield, a defensive error and a goal within 5 seconds of the equaliser gave us a well deserved victory and our 7th tournament win of the last 2 summers.
Unfortunately the halfwit on the bouncy castle wasn't aware of the boys tradition of celebrating tournament wins with a few ups and downs and let the thing down as boys with pound coins in hand approached - send him on a sales course. The only disappointment on a day of sooooo many good things.
Congratulations to all involved (Ben Gresham, Brad Richards, Lucas Brown, Charley Blunden, Jack Hollis-Smith, Josh Jex, Tom Shaw, Brad Smith, Hugo Warhurst & Aaron Mushet) for the quality of play, commitment, fantastic attitude and teamwork - you are ALL a credit to our club both on and off the field and both in victory and defeat.
Form is temporary, class is permanent...............
Brinsworth Tournament 2009 (09/06/09)
Based on winning our past 6 tournaments, the fact that we ended up runners up at Brinsworth might not cause too many ripples but when you look further in to the circumstances, this is up there with many of our other achievements.
With the tournament being played just 2 days after our trials for 2009-10, it was an ideal opportunity to have a look at potential new players and so we arrived with only 2 outfield players from last season, a trialist goalkeeper, 6 other players who had impressed on the thursday plus 1 who had never met us before.
So it was no surprise that the first group game was dominated by Wheatley (a team we beat 5-0 in our last tournament in the semis) and we were fortunate to come out with a 0-0 draw.
From there on though the boys seemed to gel and grow in confidence and quickly got in to their rythm and started playing some good football, passing and supporting each other. The next 5 group games were won, including an impressive 1-0 victory over Adwick who then went on themselves to beat Wheatley and we ended up group winners.
So what do you do? Having turned up with no expectations about winning any games, its fair to say that the managers had at this stage realised there might be a chance of something and our 'development' tournament might provide another trophy.
The boys themselves didn't seem phased by anything and beat Greaseborough 1-0 in the quarters to set up a semi with Wheatley again.
Having lost the toss and kicking uphill, we felt that this might be the end of the road but, despite conceding our first goal, we pulled off a fantastic 3-1 win and were in the final. A massive improvement from the first game of the day and a reflaction of how quickly the boys had responded.
Again kicking uphill in the final, we dominated against North Gawber but couldn't find a goal and ended up 0-0 and straight to penalties which didn't go our way, giving us runners up.
So yet again, we find ourselves with a result in a tournament but this was totally unexpected.
Credit goes to all involved for the way they conducted themselves through the day, listened to what they were asked to do, worked for each other and played some good football in to the bargain. Well done everyone.
GAZEBO UPDATE Its with great pleaure that I can announce that our new gazebo did NOT break and is available for selection for forthcoming tournaments. Speaking after the event, the gazebo said it was pleased to have come through its first outing without incident and felt it would provide a more sturdy option for the rest of this summer and beyond, than some of its predecessors. It commented that it was the 'real deal' and believes that the culture for 'cheap pop up gazebos' will soon die out if only the public will see sense. It added that it had no intention of going down the same road as previous gazebos and had no wish to be 'treated like a piece of meat by that butcher Jimmy Blackburn - I've seen what he can do when a gazebo shows weakness'. The gazebo has already found local accomodation in a garage, feels part of the Greenhill family and is looking forward to the future.
Wickersley Tournament 2009 (19/05/09)
Another bit of unfinished business now finished, ticked off, done. Wickersley 2008 had been a sad start to our summer tournament schedule, going out on penalties in the quarter final - now the trophy sits proudly at Greenhill HQ after another great days football.
The 'We hate Greenhill' bandwagon had rolled into town earlier than expected today with barely a chance to get the team registered before the sniping started - one team, here to win it blah blah blah blah blah. And it carried on throughout the day - shame that 'parents' hate our 9 year olds and haven't worked out yet their hatred is jealousy. So lets make the most of it while it lasts - cups on the table now and they'll love us to bits IF we ever get to the point of being un-successfull.
So where was I? Oh yes, we've just won our 6th straight tournament to go with the league and cup double. Our second straight tournament without conceding a goal - hate us or hate us you can't deny at the moment these boys are on top of their game.
Both groups were loaded with quality and it would be no mean feat just to qualify, first up were Thornes from Wakefield who won this tournament last year and had 'won everything, the treble this season'. A 0-0 draw in hindsight wasn't a bad result particularly as we dominated despite kicking uphill, but as your managers will tell you 'draws will kill you in tournaments' so the murmours of 'i hate tournaments', 'why do we do this' had already begun in the Blunden/Richards camp.
Next up were our hosts, Wickersley and a tight game went in our favour 1-0, thanks to an Aaron goal and the calls of 'aren't tournaments great' could now be heard. Sheff Rangers were then beaten 2-0 (Aaron and an OG)
With Thornes then beating Wickersley it looked like being a straight fight for winning the group with goal difference likely to be key. So the 1-0 win (Tom) against Rawmarsh was welcome but more goals should have come.
As Thornes had completed their group games, a 5-0 win was needed in our last game to give us the exact same record as Thornes - in 7 minutes one way that was unlikely so we asked the boys for a win and go from there.
They nearly pulled it off ending up 4-0 (Charley 2, Jack, Adam) but ended up group runners up based on scoring one goal fewer than Thornes. The semi therefore pitched us against Wheatley from Doncaster who had won the other group.
7 mins each way now at least gave the teams a bit more chance to play so being 4-0 up at half time wasn't really in the script, another in the second completed a 5-0 rout (Aaron 4, Max) and we would meet Thornes again, in the final after their penalty shoot out semi win.
The final again was a tight affair with Greenhill again dominant but this time finding a goal to reflect it, a well worked free kick saw Max find Jack who finished neatly in to the bottom corner to give a 1-0 win.
A spell on the bouncy castle followed despite the health & safety officer's protestations that the boys really shouldn't be enjoying themselves and the cup and medals were presented.
Highlight of the day? Hugo keeping 7 clean sheetsn and the smile on his face, Bradley & Lucas both on top of their game at the back, Max's continued class, Charley's never say die attitude, Jack being unplayable at times despite having one fit foot or Aaron's goals including a cracking semi final header, Adam's obvious enjoyment to be a part of the Greenhill family again? For me THE moment was the semi final, 4-0 up, second half and Wheatley's attacker beat Lucas to go clean through only to be stopped in his tracks by Tom who had sprinted back from up front to perform a inch perfect slide tackle in our area - this for me sums up what makes these boys special - we keep saying it but they're mates and will fight for each other like nothing else I've seen - they might be class footballers but theres a will to win inside which, at the moment, takes them to a different level.
We'll enjoy the criticism while it comes because it means we're winning, if only we were as good with gazebos....now wheres that Argos catalogue?
R & T Tours South East Championship 2009 (05/05/09)
Greenhill took 8 players to Camber Sands to participate in the South East Championship against teams from London, Kent, Sussex and Essex.
Although a little short in numbers, there was plenty of quality on offer with goalkeeper & captain Ben, Bradley, Cami, Charley, Jack, Max, Tom and Aaron making up the squad.
Our first experience of this sort of tour last year had seen us finish as runners up due to not being able to find a goal in our last game - so there was a feeling of unfinished business to take care off.
Saturday saw our first games on probably the best surfaces and pitches we have seen, with the sun also beating down. The boys started nervously and half time v Halliford Colts B was 0-0 but goals in the second half from Max and Jack gave a convincing 2-0 victory. A good start followed by more convincing wins against Glebe B 4-0 (Max, Jack 2, Aaron) and Bedwell Rangers 3-0 (Jack, Aaron and a very rare Bradley strike - worth the admission fee to see his startled celebration!). It was apparent the pitches were suiting the boys with some incredible passing football being played and teams simply not being able to live with us. The final game of the day saw a 3-0 victory v TDA (Max, Aaron, Jack) and although the scoreline is convincing this was a tighter affair - a wonderfull Ben save at 1-0 led to us going to the other end to make it 2-0 immediately.
It is worth noting that although the boys did so well, it is a mystery as to how Max is so talented. During the TDA game , his father, a certain Mr Dave Fisher, produced a moment that will live long in the memory. Attempting to control a clearance on the touchline, he shinned it and proceeded to lose his flip flop which nearly took off an un-suspecting 3 year olds head nearby. The sort of moment you've been framed are always looking for - difficult to know whether this or the sight of young Tom crusing round the pitches beforehand on his grandma's electric scooter with various other players hanging on, was the funniest moment of the weekend.
Day 1 couldn't have gone any better and with Mr Fisher on BBQ cooking duty that evening, the burgers and sausages (and various beverages) tasted as good as ever.
Sunday began with a game against defending champions from last years U8s, Blackheath Wanderers. They were dispatched with some ease 2-0 with Jack again on fire and notching both. Next up, the potential championship decider. Greenhill 100% v Glebe A who had drawn one game and won the rest. A tight first half saw our boys very nervous as it appeared they were more worried about losing than actually going and winning it. A half time gee up saw a second half where Glebe, who had only condceded 1 goal in their first 6 games, were crushed 3-0 with another Jack stunner, Tom and a Max free kick special.
A rather negative Mark Richards proceeded to then try to forecast the end game - after played 6, won 6 and no goals conceded, his mathematical genius had worked out that a narrow defeat and draw in our remaining 2 games would lead to us taking the trophy - first aid were called and sunstroke was diagnosed with Ladbrokes also ringing him to offer him a free £20 bet when he opened a new account.
Whitewebbs Eagles were next up and again, it was proved theres something for everyone in this game we love. Just when you thought you'd seen it all they proceeded to perform a haka pre kick off with some of our boys watching bemused and others who thought they were doing an impression of Dave Fish kicking a ball. The game was a tight affair with an eventual 1-0 (Aaron) win securing the trophy and Ladbrokes pre match 100-1 odds on a 8-2 Greenhill defeat now making more sense to Mark.
Celebratory maltesers all round with Bradley taking the award for biggest gob, being the only one who caught one in it.
Halliford Colts A were last up and one of the most bizarre first halfs yet with a disallowed goal for Aaron because the referee couldn't be bothered to write down someone had scored and a Tom penalty, missed, which he took so quickly the referee didn't even realise he'd awarded it. Normal service was resumed in the second half wih 2 Aaron goals maintaining the 100% record.
So there you have it - played 8, won 8, scored 20, conceded 0 and its this final figure that says most about the weekend. To go through 8 games and not concede is, in the words of David Coleman, quite remarkable. The boys were magnificent and backed up the free flowing football and stunning goals with the familiar Greenhill never say die attitude and spirit. All of them deserve a massive pat on the back and the sight of that trophy being handed over by Clive Allen (Arsenal legend - 0 games, 0 goals before his career nosedived ending up at the rather less glamorous lower league London club Tottingham) to captain Ben, was a tear jerker.
A spot of celebratory Cava/Champagne followed in the caravan with the cup paraded through the club house to some bemused locals. Its fair to say the boys enjoyed the evening but so did all concerned with the cup being hoisted in as many different ways as you can imagine.
So success on the pitch but theres a reason for that - the spirit and the friendships that are growing week by week shown by not one fall out between any of the boys off the pitch as they had the time of their lives terrorising local gangster, young Albert in the caravan next door.
A wonderfull, wonderfull weekend which will live long in the memory - great football, great weather and even better company made the Tuesday back at work one of the dreariest days ever, but those memories of Dave's flip flop are enough to lighten even the darkest day..................

The Annual Greenhill Cup (17/08/08)
What a fantastic achievement for our age group at Greenhill JFC. To organise an event, in under three weeks, and to make it such a success is a massive reminder to all persons connected and not connected with the club, what this age group is all about!! We raised a significant amount of money and this was all down to the tremendous hard work by everyone. Thankyou!! Now to the football - Greenhill welcomed Blidworth, Middlewood, and Wickersley. On a day that really never saw our lads peak, performances generally well below what is expected, surprising the final was played with a greenhill representative. However, not before an all Greenhill Semi-final. The game was played highly competitively and was decided with a last minute Tom Hollis-Smith free kick which managed to find it s way into the bottom left hand corner of Pope's goal. Green on Green matches are never easy, as weve found out on three occasions this year, but as always is the case, football is about winning and losing, and to see the lads faces afterwards is heartbreaking!! A tattoo, sweets, hair spray and sponge chucking soon had the lads as good as new. The final came and went in a hearbeat. Blidworth dominated the Greenhill finalists, one nil in a game that saw little green invention, character, or heart... which unfortunately was reflected throughout the squad during todays competition. Some highlights though would have to be Aaron Mushets continued form in front of goal, and Ben Greshams performance between the sticks.
Brampton Rovers Tournament 2008 (13/07/08)
After 3 tournament wins on the spin, confidence was at an all time high within the squad. Having only entered one team in both the Sheffield Rangers & Brampton tournaments, it had been decided that most players would only play in one of the tournaments each. So it was a vastly different 10 that arrived for Brampton from the 10 that had won Sheff Rangers the week before. Unlike recent tournaments, we started slowly and despite dominating Hasland drew 0-0. Next up we beat both Wingerworth and Somersall B 1-0 (Merlin Ferrinho/ Lian Nutt scoring)and looked well on track until we lost a tournament group game for the first time in over a year, 1-0 to Whiston. If the boys had needed a wake up call, this was it. Going into the last game level on points, goal difference and goals scored with Wingerworth the boys knew a win still might not be enough to qualify. As we were playing Brampton B, who could still qualify it didnt look good but the 4-0 win (Charley Blunden, Aaron Mushet 2, Merlin Ferrinho) that followed was another example of the new found Greenhill confidence - Brampton were stuck in their own half and couldn't cope with the waves of attacks that followed. So we qualified as group runners up and played Chesterfield Junior Blues C in the quarters - a 1-0 win (joe stanley) followed a game of total domination from Greenhill and it was Somersall A in the semis. Again we dominated and ended up with a 1-0 win after a rare event - a Max Fisher back post header. The final v Brampton Rovers was a tight game with Greenhill on top for long periods but not really being able to find a goal. With the game drifting towards extra time, Joe Stanley got the ball on the left wing and hit a missile into the top far corner which Brampton's keeper did well to even get his fingers to. Greenhill shut up shop for the last 2 minutes and the fourth tournament win in a row was ours. At times our free flowing football wasn't evident but what pleased was the way the boys dug in and again showed their determination and team spirit. Once again we're so proud of all the boys for an exceptional days football - well done all of you!!
Sheffield Rangers Tournament 2008 (05/07/08)
Sheffield Rangers 2007 was the first tournament we entered as a club and when we went out to SUJB in the group and semi finals, it was a fair reflection of where we were as a club at the time. Jump forward a year to 2008 and things have changed dramatically. Our squad of players is now strong throughout, unbeaten during the last season and had won the last 2 tournaments we had entered. The confidence in the squad was evident in the early group games - a 1-0 win against a strong Edenthorpe side followed by 5-2 against Ecclesfield Red Rose and 3-0 against Birley Spa. 2-2 draws followed against Worksop Boys and Sheff Rangers B and this was enough to take us through to the semis as group winners. The standard of football that had been played was yet again breathtaking at times. The semi v Sheff Rangers A and final v Sheff Rangers B took things to a new level both being won 4-0 as Greenhill dominated both games with Rangers having no answers to the sheer quality of football on view. Another fantastic day, the 3rd tournament victory in a row and the boys' day was complete as they received the trophy from Paddy Kenny. Yet again, a massive well done to all the boys involved.
Gosforth Fields Tournament 2008 (15/06/08)
2 teams entered and it felt like every one of our players would be playing against either their old team or a school mate. Both teams started like they meant business with a 5-0 win and that set the scene for the day. Both teams surged through their groups playing unbelievable passing football and scoring some breathtaking goals to boot. Both won all 5 games and between them conceded just 1 goal - an unlucky own goal at that. At least this meant we wouldn't have a greenhill-greenhill semi this time. Both semis were again dominated by Greenhill and the 1-0 victories for both sides weren't a fair reflection of the superiority that both teams enjoyed. And so to our first Greenhill-Greenhill final!! Mates v Mates, Blunden v Richards - what a game. Richards' side dominated early and looked to be heading for glory after a Josh Hawes goal. Blunden's side however bounced back and dug deep to force an equaliser through Merlin Ferrinho and looked like winning it. But it went to extra time. The game went end to end and the highlight was a Caelan Bradley run and his shot heading for goal when Josh Hawes appeared from nowhere to slide the ball clear off the line. 1-1 at the end. Penalties again and Richards side came out on top. A brilliant day, unfortunate that one team had to lose but thats football. Well done everyone again!!!
Thorncliffe Tournament 2008 (08/06/08)
After the disappointment of previous tournaments last year and this, the managers had begun to doubt the wisdom of 'a summer of tournaments' Thorncliffe was to prove the turning point. 2 teams entered and both went through the group stages unbeaten and without a goal conceded. Unfortunately, goal difference meant that one of the teams were runners up leading to a Greenhill-Greenhill semi final. The game proved that both teams were matched and a penalty shoot out looked on the cards until Aaron Mushet scored a late winner. The final v Dodworth was donminated by Greenhill but the ball wouldn't go in and so we went to penalties again. This time, it was Greenhill who experienced the joy of winning and Dodworth the pain of defeat as we won our first tournament. Without saying it every time, the boys were once again a credit in the way they conducted themselves throughout the day and during the shootout - none of the disgraceful behaviour we had seen from another team who had previously beaten us on penalties as Greenhill boys applauded and cheered their beaten opponents. Well done everyone again and bring on the next tournament!!
Wickersley Tournament 2008 (11/05/08)
We entered one squad of 10. The group stage was very tight and we ended up as runners up on goal difference, despite only conceding 1 goal. In the quarter finals, we met Abbey Lane and another tight game ended in a 0-0 draw after extra time. The lads first experience of a penalty shoot out was a bitter one as we went out. However, all the boys can hold their heads high as they yet again proved that they act as graciously in defeat as they do when winning. Well done everyone - a credit to Greenhill JFC once again.
The Umbro Cup (17/08/08)
Greenhill JFC took a strong ten man squad to the eagerly anticipated Umbro Cup in Manchester which took place on Saturday the 2nd of August 2008 (Browny, Brad, Charl, Josh, Liam, Hollis-smith, Hugo, Cae, Came, Merlin all selected.) However despite all the hype, the Umbro cup failed to deliver the experience which it promised. Poor pitches, which were too large for 6 a side soccer prevented any real continuity of play, and a limited amount of football matches was frustrating at best. That coupled with the non competitive edge to the tournament served up a spectacle about as interesting as a margerita pizza!! Greenhill JFC were knocked out in the final group game, despite dominating it. Sliding to a one nil defeat, collective poor defending provided the Cumbrian based side a guilt edged opportunity to fire themselves into the final. Greenhill's shock exit from the tournament, again a clear reminder, that footballs not always one way traffic.
Great Yarmouth Tournament 2008 (05/05/08)
What a great weekend!! Everyone on the tournament agreed that the football was great, the boys had a wonderful time (arcade profits increased 100% during the 3 days!) and the parents enjoyed a tipple or two. This was our first non-sheffield tournament and I think we all went with some fear as to what to expect but were pleasantly surprised. The site was superb and the football organised by R & T tours excellent. The boys started like a house on fire beating Hoddesdon 6-0 (Caelan 2, Tom 2, Aaron, Hugo). Next up were Upminster Park Rovers who came having won an R & T tournament last year and upon scouting were definately going to provide stiff opposition. An excellent, very competitive game, followed with UPR on top in the first half downhill and Greenhill dominating in the second. A stonewall penalty (as described by a UPR supporter) was missed by the ref which would have handed the points to Greenhill but the game ended 0-0 - a great performance. The last game of the day vs Elsenham ended in a 4-0 win with Hugo 2, Caelan and Aaron on target. Day 2 started with disappointment with a team dropping out and a 3-0 win awarded to all the other teams, which meant one remaining game vs John Warner. The position was clear - both ourselves and UPR had won 3, drawn 1 with Greenhill scored 13, conceded 0, UPR scored 11, conceded 0. Any win appeared to put us in pole position to take the title - the 0-0 draw that followed was not what anyone expected! It wasnt a great performance but the effort over the 2 days from all the boys was superb - with UPR winning their last game 2-0 the title was theirs was Greenhill having to settle for runners up (despite not conceding a goal even with Lucas & Hugo alternating as goalkeeper as neither of our regular goalies was available - well done both of you). The presentation event was another well oiled machine and Ray Clemence (was he any good dad?) presented the boys with their trophies. Well done all the boys (Lucas, Hugo, Bradley, Tom, Caelan, Aaron, Max & Charley), a weekend to remember - oh, and the sun shone every day as well!
Season 2007/08 (16/04/08)
Greenhill finished top of group X after going the full season unbeaten - played 16, won 14, drawn 2, lost 0. Add in the unbeaten 17 game run through to the end of 2006-07 and the boys are now unbeaten for 33 games. An impressive 120 goals were scored during a hugely succesful season. We have seen a massive development in the boys' ability this year and this has been more rewarding for all concerned than the results - special mention for the way that the boys have taken on board the passing game that they are being encouraged to play. Well done everyone!! CHAMPIONS!!
Eckington Boys Tournament 2007 (17/08/07)
08/07. Greenhill JFC took eight members of the squad to represent us in the tournament, which proved to be a success. Progressing through the group stages to meet an Eckinton team in the quarter finals who had not conceded a goal would be a big ask but a tremendous Hugo warhurst header saw us through. Semi finals saw Greenhill defeat a competitive Chesterfield Junior Blue side, with a Josh Jex 15 yard screamer. The final proved to be a bridge too far and Greenhill slumped to a 4 -1 defeat to a strong Abbey Lane side. However, all won a runners-up trophey and the management team were proud of everyone who took part. Particular praise to Caelen and Josh who were outstanding.
Sheffield Rangers Tounament 2007 (17/08/07)
Greenhill put two sides into the Sheffield rangers Tournament.06/07. Both sides performed well despite fielding teams containing new players and trialists. One team were beaten semi-finalists and the other were knocked out on goal difference during the group stages (one goal). The semi-finalists lost to a very dynamic and strong Junior Blades side. Good Effort.
Season 2006/07 (17/08/07)
Greenhill & Lowedges junior football club players and management had an immensely successful start. Winning their respective league on the final day of the season against close rivals Brinsworth Whitehill and Sheffield united Junior Blades. 2 early defeats at the very start to the season where brushed to one side as the Greenhill team remained undefeated there on after. Soon becoming the team to beat, the side went from strength to strength beating both the blades and brinsworth who had ealier taken points away from us. A battle in Darfield at Barnsley also proved to be decisive as Greenhill took all three points on a bitterley contested highly competitive game. What a season. CHAMPIONS

Would moving kids' football to a summer game help improve the development of young footballers?
Yes - better pitches mean a better chance to develop technique/skills
No - wouldn't make any real difference to development
Maybe - but I'd be worried about more injuries on firm pitches
